Rocket Nation Recovery Part 34 – – update and a heartfelt message received from a UToledo alum and long-time business leader.

Update – the UToledo board of trustees held yet another emergency meeting earlier this week to discuss the future direction of the institution. They welcomed a new trustee, a native of Poland that graduated from UT Law that now resides in Northwest Ohio.

While the board of trustees continues to struggle to gain their footing and alignment on a strategic direction for UToledo, should The Rocket Nation continue to make donations?  Many are suggesting that until greater transparency and accountability have been measurably demonstrated, The Rocket Nation should make donations directly to the following programs rather than the institution:

Heartfelt Message

“As a two time alum it never ceases to amaze me how this (and previous) administrations cannot seem to get their act together and get out of their own way.

As a proud Rocket, I wear my degrees like a chip on my shoulder. I take great pride when reminding the big school elites that work for me that I received an outstanding education from UT.

At the same time it is a flat out embarrassment to see how UT continues to throw itself into the gutter. It’s clear that the past three administrations have no understanding of or interest in learning about UT history and culture. My classmates that still live in Toledo and run companies there tell me there is virtually no outreach from the administration to the business community. What happened?

I had some of the absolute best professors to learn from. For that, I will be forever grateful. I will always financially support those professor’s continued pursuit of academic excellence.

However, I have steadfastly refused to donate or contribute any money to the institution. Giving money to the current UT administration is no different than giving money to a drug addict. There is always a promise to clean up and do better with no meaningful actions or results. It’s as if they look down on the very institution they lead and have vision or UT on the world stage.

I cannot see the potential for a return on investment for donations under the current administration. What are local government, community and business leaders saying and doing to help ? l will never give up on UT!”

It’s ok to feel uncomfortable in a crisis. Please pray for thoughtful, compassionate accountability and urgent actions to revitalize The Rocket Nation.
