Rocket Nation Recovery Part 11 – an interesting perspective from The Blade

With leadership entering year four at UToledo, this editorial makes a really good point. “The trustees need to make sure all activity at UT somehow works to support an aspect of student recruitment. Dr. Postel’s mission must be to devise a universitywide plan devoted to that goal.”

With four years of planning already completed, would it make sense that the tactical, detailed student recruitment plan be in place by the September 27th board meeting? Should that plan and metrics to gauge its success be made public after that meeting? What value could be gained by posting the monthly admissions and enrollment reports after every board meeting? How will the trustees incorporate the recruitment metrics into leadership performance bonuses for 2023-24?

The Board of Trustees and The Blade have highlighted “greater alumni engagement” as a “pocket of success”. Would it make sense for leadership to immediately engage alumni in the admissions and enrollment processes? How do the trustees measure alumni involvement to gauge that it’s a pocket of success? Would it make sense to publish those metrics after every board meeting on the UT Board of Trustees website landing page?

The Rocket Nation owes a thank you to The Blade for reinforcing the urgency of the financial and enrollment crisis!

It’s ok to feel uncomfortable in a crisis. Please pray for thoughtful, compassionate accountability and urgent actions to revitalize The Rocket Nation.
